The present research work to obtain the professional title addresses the topic of functional evaluation, focusing on the analysis of the roughness of the rolling surface. This factor plays a crucial role in the safety and comfort of road users. Likewise, the implications of roughness on vehicle operating costs are exploited, since the magnitude of surface irregularities directly influences the reduction in vehicle speed. By using the American Road Capacity Manual HCM 2010 6th edition, the required adjustments can be made and a vehicle speed reduction factor associated with the Roughness Index can be obtained. This procedure allows us to relate service levels to the specific conditions of the road and make the necessary adjustments. The research methodology was implemented in a specific section of ten kilometers in length, eleven sections that share similar characteristics with the Poroy – Izcuchaca highway. This particular section spans from kilometer 945+000 to kilometer 955+800, and was selected as a representative sample to carry out the study. The results obtained in the study sections revealed that one of the key aspects for the maintenance of a road is the increase in the roughness factor. This factor provides precise information about the real conditions of the road, identifying the main existing problems and allowing the determination of appropriate strategies to address them.
