In contemporary healthcare settings, professionals often encounter a myriad of stress-inducing factors such as limited social support, high mental and physical demands, and an imbalance between effort expended and rewards received. This contributes to increased rates of burnout and reduced job satisfaction among healthcare workers. Mental health professionals, in particular, face significant challenges related to their well-being while providing care to individuals with psychiatric disorders. Burnout syndrome, a prolonged reaction to occupational stress, emerges as a growing threat to the physical and mental health of healthcare workers. The quality of the work environment, defined as the psychosocial context in which employees carry out their duties, is identified as a critical factor influencing job satisfaction and the quality of care provided. This paper focuses on understanding the interaction between burnout syndrome and the work environment among mental health professionals at the Regional Hospital of Cusco in 2022. Despite efforts to provide support to patients, mental health professionals may face various stressors contributing to burnout, including workload overload, inadequate resources, emotionally demanding tasks, and interactions with patients with severe mental illnesses. Burnout syndrome, categorized as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic unaddressed workplace stress, is now recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The work environment, often referred to as organizational climate, plays a crucial role in shaping employee motivation and behavior. A favorable work climate enhances motivation and productivity, while an unfavorable one can adversely affect performance and employee well-being. Understanding the interplay between burnout syndrome and the work environment is essential for addressing the challenges faced by mental health professionals and improving the quality of care provided. This study underscores the importance of investigating these dynamics to develop effective interventions aimed at promoting the well-being of healthcare workers and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery.
