The objective of the research work was to determine the factors associated with malocclusions as determined by the Dental Aesthetics Index of the World Health Organization for adolescents attending the Buena Vista Health Center, Cusco 2020. A non-experimental, cross-sectional correlational study was carried out with 384 adolescents aged 12 to 16 years who attended the Buena Vista Health Center in the city of Cusco during the period 2020. A survey was carried out where the data of affiliation and anamnesis were recorded and then the data sheets such as odontogram, dentoalveolar anomalies and habits were used. The associated factors taken into account were sex, age, height, facial biotype, habits, premature loss of teeth and type of breastfeeding. As results of the analysis and interpretation of the data, it can be determined that the prevalence of malocclusion is 95.57% of the sample, which is a very high value since almost the totality of the sample studied presents a level of malocclusion, with very severe or disabling malocclusion (according to the DAI - Dental Aesthetic Index) being the most prevalent with 48.96%. Among the genetic factors associated with malocclusion, it was found that there was no association of sex, age and facial biotype (p>0.05) with the presence of malocclusion in the sample studied. With regard to external factors associated with malocclusions, it was found that the functional habits of atypical swallowing and mouth breathing had a negative association, which shows that the absence of habits reduces the presence of malocclusions by 11%. As for the number of missing anterior dental pieces is associated with the presence of malocclusions in 8.5% (p<0.05), likewise the number of missing posterior dental pieces is associated with the presence of malocclusions in 31.5% (p<0.05). Finally, when analyzing the type of breastfeeding and facial trauma, no association was found (p>0.05). The multivariate analysis shows the factors analyzed as risk factors, i.e. the tendency to influence the presence of malocclusions to the presence of the various factors, the Poisson regression analysis determined that although habits are associated with the presence of malocclusions, they were not determined as a risk factor (RR 1.001 IC95% 0.963 - 1.041 for atypical swallowing) and (RR 1.036 IC95% 0.995 - 1.080 for mouth breathing), in the case of mouth breathing (RR 1.036 IC95% 0.995 - 1.080). 080 for mouth breathing), in contrast to this result, the loss of anterior and posterior teeth are risk factors for the presence of malocclusion, being more risky by 1.3 times, the loss of 2 or more teeth in the anterior sector (RR 1. 266 CI95% 1.086 - 1.477) and likewise for the posterior sector in 1.2 times (RR 1.160 CI95% 1.114 - 1.208). In conclusion it was found that the risk factors for the presence of malocclusions are the loss of anterior and posterior teeth.
