The main objective of this research was to determine if there is a significant difference in the degree of behavioural adaptation in male and female students of the fourth grade of secondary education from public and private mixed schools in Cusco district (2016), according to sex and educational modality. And, also, describe and compare the four areas of adaptation: personal, family, school and social, according to gender and educational modality. We evaluated 620 students, adolescents between 14 and 16 years old. The research is descriptive of the non-experimental transversal type that corresponds to the comparative descriptive design. It was found that the students present a predominantly average degree of general behavioural adaptation with 55%, which shows normal self-perception, adequate family coexistence, normal treatment at school and social levels. The results show that: the personal and school level are predominantly medium, the family level is predominantly low and the social level is predominantly high. There is a better behavioural adaptation of students from private schools compared to students from public schools, but there is no significant difference between men and women. There is a better adaptation in men than in women in the family level, but there are no significant differences in the personal, educational and social spheres between both genders. There is a better adaptation in students from private schools than in students from public schools in the personal field but there are no significant differences in the family, educational and social spheres between students from both educational modalities.
