The minimum inhibitory concentration of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratus, was determined by the method of plate disco Muller Hinton agar with 5% sheep blood, taking control as a positive to clorhexidine 0.12% Tween control and negative 20, against 17 strains of Streptococcus sp. Isolated from patients with fixed orthodontic treatment, determining the CIM to 20% dilution of essential oil with Tween 20, obtaining the average UN inhibition halos 18.24mm in diameter, not significant, positive difference found to statistically control 0.12% clorhexidine.
