The objective of this research was to determine the levels of depression in children aged 7 to 8 years in confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic in the II.EE. As for the methodology, the work was conducted through a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design - cross-sectional, basic type, descriptive level; on the other hand, the technique used for data collection was a survey, the instrument used was a questionnaire of questions called or based on the Childhood Depression Inventory (CDI) which is allusive to the variable childhood depression, an instrument already validated by previous research and / or experts in the field; The population used in the study was 364 students belonging to the age group of 7 to 8 years and in the same way are part of both educational institutions of the study, from which a representative sample of equal size to 188 children was extracted by simple random sampling. The results showed that 55.3% of the children presented severe childhood depression, 41% suffered from mild childhood depression and meanwhile 3.7% of the children did not present symptoms of depression; the dysphoric mood in children was presented in a severe way in a higher percentage which value reached 85.1%; on the other hand, 56.4% of the children did not present any symptomatology in terms of negative self-esteem or self-contempt. It was concluded that childhood depression in children of the II.EE. de la Merced and Tupac Amaru is presented in its great majority at severe levels, while, under the same study population, for the dimension of dysphoric state it was presented in large proportions as severe, and for negative self-esteem in its great majority the children did not present any symptomatology.
