OBJECTIVE: To determine the risk factors associated with diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients of the IPRESS Metropolitano EsSalud-Cusco, 2018-2022. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Correlational, retrospective, cross-sectional and observational study. General data of the participants was collected in addition to clinical history related to diabetic nephropathy through a data collection form. The data was processed using the EPIDAT version 4.2 application. RESULTS: Diabetic pre-nephropathy or grade 1 was the most frequent with (63.5%, n=148) as control, followed by grade 2 onwards as cases (36.5%, n=85). Risk factors are male sex (OR=1.727, 95%CI=1.01-2.96, p<0.05), high systolic blood pressure (F=5.193, p=0.006), high uric acid (F=3.288, p<0.05), control inadequate glycemic (OR=1.601, 95%CI=1.01-2.77, p<0.05) and disease time greater than 10 years (OR=1.802, 95%CI=1.00-3.27, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The majority of patients with DM2 do not have measurable renal disease, in the cases where it becomes manifest, the main risk factors are the male sex, high systolic pressure, high ucir acid, inadequate glycemic control and longer time of illness.
