Introduction: Depression is a disease that frequently affects patients with chronic kidney disease, and it can also affect adherence to hemodialysis treatment. Objective: Determine the relationship between depression and adherence to hemodialysis treatment in patients with chronic kidney disease, ESSALUD, Cusco – Perú, 2024. Material and Method: the research has a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, correlational, cross- sectional, prospective; Two questionnaires were used, the Beck-II depression questionnaire and the SMAN adherence questionnaire in a sample of 163 patients. Results: the results of the research reveal that a significant negative correlation between depression and adherence to hemodialysis treatment determined by Spearman's correlation coefficient, where rho=-0.513 and p< 0.001, which indicates that the greater the depression, the less adherence to hemodialysis treatment and vice versa, it was also found that 39.2% had mild depression, 83.4% had very good adherence to treatment, 65% of the patients were male, 57.1% of the patients were over 60 years old. , 36.2% had a stay on hemodialysis between 1 and 5 years. Conclusions: It is concluded that, if there is a significant correlation between depression and adherence to hemodialysis treatment, it was also determined that regardless of the degree of depression that the patient has, there is very good adherence to hemodialysis treatment.
