lntroduction: Around 24 million people worldwide, which is equivalen! to I in every 300 people, have schizophrenia. In Peru, it is estimated that more than 280,000 people suffer from this disease. lt has also been observed that there is a higher number of births of people with schizophrenia at ccrtain times oí thc ycar. ln countries with defined seasons, 10% of schizophrenia cases are reponed during wimer and spring, while in countries near the equator, an is esscntial to understand the correlauon between these two variables. incrcase in births is registcrcd during rainy periods. Thereforc, it Objective: To determine the correlation between birth seasonality and schizophrenia in patients rreated at the San Juan Pablo IJ Mental Health Hospital from 2019 to 2020, Cusco-Peru. Materials and methods: A non-expenmcntal, cross-sectional, retrospective, analytical study was conducted. Simple random probabilisuc sampling was used, and the medica) records of 100 patients who met the selection criteria were reviewed. A data collection form was dcsigned and validated to gather the necessary information, which was entered into an Excel 2021 database and later analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Results: lt was obscrved that the months in which the majority oí pauents with schizophrcnia were bom were February, March, and April, with percentages of 14%, 20%, and 13%, respectively. Ln addition, a statistically signifícant relationship was found between birth seasonality and diagnosis type using the chi-square test, as well as a statistically signifícant corrc\ation between thc months ofMarch and April and paranoid schizophrenia, with correlation coeffícicnts oí 0.239 and 0.055 and significancc values oí 0.031 and 0.047, respectivcly. Conclusions: There is a correlation between birth seasonality and schizophrenia in patients rreated at the San Juan Pablo II Mental Health Hospital.
