Although Peru has one of the largest water reserves in the world, climate change, water resource pollution, inefficient water management and insufficient hydraulic infrastructure have an impact on water availability, being the agricultural sector one of the most affected. For this reason, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), through the implementer unit "Fondo Sierra Azul" (UEFSA), is striving to increase agricultural water security at the basin level through water planting and harvesting projects. In this sense, UEFSA approved the technical file with Unique Investment Code (CUI) N° 249766 with a budget of 141,025.78 Peruvian soles. This work -located in the district of Carapo, province of Huancasancos, Ayacucho region- was executed in 45 calendar days, starting on September 22 and ending on November 5, 2021. It consisted of the construction of a concrete dam 36.93 meters long, with a height of 2.18 meters and a crown width of 0.30 meters, which allows a storage volume of 20,114.36 m3. A spillway was also constructed, with a length of 9.17 meters for a maximum flow of 1,476 m3/s. Likewise, the water intake and discharge structures were built, with a discharge pipe length of 24 meters. The construction process was divided into six stages: site compatibility, preliminary and provisional works, construction of the cyclopean concrete dam, construction of the intake and discharge structure, site closure and operation and maintenance workshop. During the development of this work, the aforementioned stages are detailed, also analyzing and evaluating the particularities and difficulties that arose during the work execution. Likewise, the work prevention and safety protocols are considered.
