Objective: The objective of this study was to determine if early menopause is a risk factor for diabetes mellitus in postmenopausal women. . Materials and Methods: A retrospective case-control study was carried out, 144 medical records were analyzed that met the selective criteria, which were distributed into two groups based on the presence of diabetes mellitus, the cases (72 postmenopausal women with diabetes mellitus).and controls (72 postmenopausal women without diabetes mellitus). Results: 11.1% of postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus developed early menopause and 45.8% of the control group (without DM2). Multivariate analysis, in which the logistic regression technique was applied in a more integrated context; The results evidenced in the bivariate analysis are corroborated by recognizing early menopause as a protective factor (OR: 0.115 95% CI: 0.032 - 0.415; P <0.001). While age and arterial hypertension did not persist as risk factors, in such a way that they did not turn out to be significant (p= 0.355 and p=0.997 respectively), and produce a non-significant change in the measure of association Conclusions: Early menopause is not a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
