Objective: To evaluate if cognitive impairment is a factor associated with decreased quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease. Materials and methods: An analytical observational, cross-sectional study was carried out with a total of 94 patients from the outpatient service of nephrology, attended at the hospital Belén in Trujillo, between March and May 2024.The study included patients with CKD (stage 3,4,5) and over 18 years of age of both genders. Each patient was evaluated using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) to determine the presence or absence of cognitive impairment. Likewise, the Karnofsky functional status scale (KPS) was used to evaluate quality of life. Patients with concurrent psychiatric illnesses with or without treatment, on dialysis, transplant recipients, with sequelae of cerebrovascular disease, suffering from acute renal failure and those who did not give informed consent were excluded. Results:The prevalence of decreased quality of life in patients with cognitive impairment was 93.8%. Cognitive impairment is 1.98 times more likely to cause decreased quality of life, with a RP of 1.98 (95% CI 1.03-3.81). In the bivariate analysis, cognitive impairment was found to be a factor associated with decreased quality of life in patients with CKD (OR=2.578, 95% CI 1.063-6.252 and p=0.040). Conclusions: Cognitive impairment is a factor associated with decreased quality of life of patients with CKD at the hospital Belén in Trujillo
