Given the possible seismic danger in the city of Lima, essential buildings such as schools must withstand earthquakes of great magnitude. The use of buildings must comply as a shelter against possible earthquakes. One of these is the Apenkai model pavilion of the I.E., 6075 Jose María Arguedas of the city of Lima. This building is made up of two modules, one octagonal and one rectangular. Each of these modules has three levels, the octagonal module has one classroom per level and the rectangular module has 4 classrooms per level. This structure has various irregularities as particularities, one of which is the torsional effect of the structure. This effect can cause multiple severe structural damages. However, these schools were built with the RNE of the year 1970, which underestimated the seismic analysis of the structures of that time. This thesis focuses on evaluating the structure through spectral modal analysis and time history to see the torsional effect of the structure in the event of a severe earthquake. Given this, the proposal in this thesis is to mitigate the torsional effect of the structure with tuned mass dampers, and thereby meet the requirements of current Peruvian regulations.
