The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between meaning in life (ML) and self-compassion (SC) in catholic catechists in Peru, and determine whether or not there is correlation and predictability between both variables. The research sample was made up of 216 catechists from Peru, 82 men and 134 women, with an average age of 37 years. 84.3% of them are lay people and 25.7% are religious, priests or seminarians. To measure ML, Crumbaugh and Maholick's Meaning in Life Test (PIL Test) was used, and Kristin Neff's Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) was used to measure SC. The results showed that there is a significant, direct and positive correlation between meaning in life and self-compassion. Also, it was shown that self-compassion was a moderate predictor of meaning in life and vice versa. Therefore, since self-compassion and meaning in life are protective factors for adequate mental health, it is recommended to promote both variables, especially in the current context of society, where the demand for hyperproductivity coexists with situations of vulnerability and psychosocial risks, produced by violence, wars, new diseases and global warming.
