Objective: To describe the epidemiological-clinical characteristics and therapeutic results of acute pancreatitis in pregnant and postpartum women attended at the “Hospital María Auxiliadora”, 2008 - 2017. Design: Observational, retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive design. We had a sample of 55 patients between pregnant and puerperal women diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Results: 44 pregnant women and 11 puerperal women with acute pancreatitis were found, the most frequent age was between 20 to 34 years in pregnant and puerperal women (84.1% and 63.6%, respectively), and in pregnant women the moment of diagnosis was in the second trimester (54.5%). The most frequent pathological antecedents in pregnant and puerperal women were biliary colic (47.7% and 9.1%), chronic calcifying cholecystitis (22.7% and 27.3%) and resolved biliary pancreatitis (22.7% and 18.2%). In clinical characteristics, it was found in pregnant and puerperal women, that the most frequent signs and symptoms were pain in the upper abdominal area (100% and 100%), pain on palpation of the abdomen (90.9% and 100%), nausea (77.3% and 63.6%) and vomiting (68.2% and 63.6%). The etiology was biliary lithiasis (86.4% and 100%) and in all cases, the degree of acute pancreatitis was mild. The management of the choice of acute pancreatitis was non-surgical (97.7% and 81.8%), among the complications of the treatment there was mild hepatic insufficiency (9.5% and 9.1%), metabolic acidosis (2.3% and 9.1%). There was no case of maternal or perinatal death. Conclusions: Acute pancreatitis occurs more frequently in patients from 20 to 34 years of age, in the second trimester of pregnancy, with a history of biliary colic, chronic calcifying cholecystitis or resolved biliary pancreatitis; abdominal pain as symptomatology, of biliary lithiasis etiology, of mild degree, the treatment of choice is non-surgical.
