The purpose of the present research study was to evaluate the effectof Problem Based Learning (PBL)as a methodologicalstrategy to develop Applied Didactics I students’ critical thinking at the foreign language teacher education program, Faculty of Education and Humanities, National University of the Peruvian Amazon, Iquitos-2013. The study was experimental, prospective, longitudinal, and explicative in type and quasi experimental in design. The population and sample were 25 students enrolled in Applied Didactics I subject at the first term 2013. They were administered a questionnaire after and before the course development in order to measure their critical thinking levels. An observation guide and rubrics were also used to monitor their course development. After verifying compliance of prerequisites, a T-student parametric statistic test was applied where the p-value resulted less than the significance level (α = 0.05). This means, the application of ABP as a methodological strategy improved significantly the students’ critical thinking and their substantive and dialogic skills in the subject studied.
