The anatomical description and comparison of xylem of the vine Machaerium floribundum existent in the low-terrace forest (habitat I) and the mid-terrace forest (habitat II) of the CIEFOR Puerto Almendra, Iquitos, was carried out in this work. The methodology proposed by Valderrama (1986) allowed the knowledge of the quantitative and qualitative anatomical structure of the vine. The vine from the low-terrace forest shows abundant longitudinal parenchyma, organic compounds were found in both forests but higher in quantity in low-terrace individuals. Pores in low-terrace individuals are all classified as large in size whereas pores in mid-terrace individuals are large, medium and small in size, with a statistical difference of 5% of likelihood. Difference also exists in the pore frequency per mm2, wall thickness of vascular elements and average height of rays (number of cells), however similarity exists in characteristics such as fiber diameter, fiber length, height of rays in microns, frequency of rays per mm lineal.
