The study of the essential oil of Campelia zanonia (L.) Kunth (Motelillo) isolated of the rhizomes with petroleum ether (30 - 60 BP), we have permitted utilized HRGC-MS, demonstrate that this plant of the Commelinácea family, contains two types of chemical substances; Terpenoids: Mono and Sesquiterpens, as well as derivates Phenolic Cinnamates and Naftlenicos compounds. By chromatography analysis was isolated the presence 63 constituents, 20 Monoterpens, and 35 Sesquiterpenos, six Phenolic substances, and two Diterpenos unknowns. The majoritary compounds are Sesquiterpens: Cromofileno with 3.18% of abundance and Corimbolona 2.6%, of abundance and Etil ester of the acid 3-(4-metoxiphenyl)-2-propanoic, phenolic substance. In minor order existing monoterpens is Verbenona 1.04%, of abundance and α- Pineno 0.64% of abundance. The essential oil of the rhizomes of Campelia zanonia (L.) Kunth (Motelillo), have a odour sui-generis is not similar at the al essential oils of jasmin, rose and Lily of the valley, of great importance in the perfumistica industry, but is an be representative odour how essential oil new. It is very rare to found essential oil with content of terpens phenolic substances, in the rhizome Campelia zanonia (L.) Kunth coexisting together this compounds, this fact is explain why the plant elaborated this substances for the way of the mevalonates, as defensive mechanism in opposition to predators: fungi, helmints, insects, and so for.
