Introduction: Cardiopulmonary arrest (CRP) is defined as abrupt, unexpected and potentially reversible interruption of breathing and spontaneous circulation, which results in the person in loss of consciousness, apnea and absence of central pulses. It is one of the main causes of in-hospital morbidity and mortality worldwide, constituting a major social, health and economic problem. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge of medical students of the 6th level of study of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon about basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Materials and methods: descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study. The sample was 65 questionnaires of medical students of the 6th academic year belonging to the National University of the Peruvian Amazonian enrolled in 2018, which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The information was handled and stored in a tabulated database in a table of the Microsoft Excel 2013 program and for the analysis of the data the STATA program was used. Results: In the distribution by sex, 38 (58.5%) were males and 27 (41.5%) were females. The mean age was 27 years, with a standard deviation of 4 years. With regard to CPR training, only 5 mentioned receiving, of which only 1 received training on two occasions. Concerning the level of knowledge, 96.9% students obtained a low grade, 3.1% an average grade, none of the students got a high grade. Conclusions: There was no relation of gender, age, origin and training with the level of knowledge of the students. The level of knowledge about CPR according to the AHA 2015 guide of UNAP medical students is low, according to the scale used.
