In order to identify the types of street advertisements used, the visual pollution and its impact on people and to assess whether the ads are agents of visual pollution, a study was conducted in Iquitos city, Peru. The study population consisted of all those men and women over 18 who live and transit along Av. Abelardo Quiñonez (districts of Iquitos, Belen and San Juan Bautista) and Av. 28 de Julio (district of Punchana), a random sample of 384 persons were surveyed through a questionnaire and the Chi-square test (α = 0,05) allowed validate the hypothesis. Posters, banners, placards and simple panels are used as street advertisements. The results of the survey shows that there is much visual pollution caused by advertisement affecting denizen with headache (91,2%), irritability (100%), nervous system altered (77,2%) and visual saturation (70,4%); this pollution also affects the environment, altering the urban landscape aesthetics (83,9%), the ornament (91,2%), the transit (74,8%) and the established order of the city (76,3%). In general terms, ads are agents of visual pollution in the city of Iquitos in 76, 8%.
