OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes related to oral health preventive measures in patients with HIV infection / AIDS in the hospital Iquitos Garayar Cesar Garcia during the years 2014-2015. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research was quantitative; not experimental, transversal, correctional. The sample consisted of 129 patients in the HAART program Iquitos Hospital. The instrument which was validated through expert judgment, the same that is used to identify the level of knowledge and attitude level on preventive oral health measures was through a questionnaire with items related to the subject. RESULTS: Among the most important findings of the study found the following: knowledge of oral health measures in the 129 (100.0%) than the 51.9% of them had adequate knowledge level and 48.1% level inadequate knowledge. As relates to the attitude about preventive measures in oral health of 129 (100.0%), it shows that 5.1% of them have an unfavorable attitude and 34.9% respectively positive attitude. The relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude regarding oral health preventive measures examined in 129 (100.0%), it is determined that 45 (34.9%) patients with favorable attitude towards preventive measures, 27.1% have adequate knowledge and 7.8% respectively inadequate knowledge. 84 (65.1%) patients with unfavorable attitude towards preventive measures, 40.3% were found to have inadequate knowledge and adequate knowledge corresponding 24, 8. When analyzing the correlation coefficient for variables which resulted X2 (Calculated) = 16.929 with a degree of freedom value indicates that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude towards preventive measures in oral health the patients with HIV / AIDS, cared for in hospital Iquitos "César García Garayar" during the years 2014-2015.
