The purpose of this study was to validate the effectiveness of the use of Cajitas LIRO structured teaching material for the resolution of additive problems in second grade students of the UGEL 03 in Metropolitan Lima. The participants were 120 students from six public schools of two educational networks, constituting a non-probabilistic sample for an experimental study. The applied instrument was the Test of Additive Problems elaborated especially for this investigation and validated by expert judgment (2016). The results obtained showed that there are significant differences in the development of the problem-solving capacity between the experimental and control groups, with the highest levels being found in the experimental group, the same one that worked with the LIRO material. This confirms the hypothesis proposed for this research, demonstrating that Cajitas LIRO is an effective concrete support for the resolution of PAEV additives at the primary level and consequently for the development of mathematical competences of the students.
