Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological development condition that has been highly prevalent in recent years, characterized by deficiencies in communication, restricted and repetitive patterns. Therefore, the application of the PECS communication system manages to develop functional communication. Objective: Describe the considerations for the application of the PECS image exchange communication system in a 5-year-old child with autism spectrum disorder during the period from January to June 2024 in Lima, Peru. Description of the experience: The PECS was applied to a 5-year-old child with ASD level 2 for 6 months, with the aim of obtaining functional communication, in addition, considerations based on scientific evidence were taken into account. Results: The considerations of our TSP facilitated the application of the communication system in a 5-year-old child with ASD, obtaining positive results in communication, managing to make spontaneous requests and answer the question What do you want? corresponding phase V, I feel considered a competent communicator. Conclusion: The considerations are the significant communication deficit, selection of reinforcers, active collaboration of parents and educationalenvironment. All of this contributed to functional communication, achieving phase V.
