Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is caused by infection of the central nervous system (CNS) by larvae of the Taenia solium parasite. In developing countries, it is the most important cause of epilepsy. In the CNS, it can be located intraparenchymal or extraparenchymal, depending on this the immune response. There are diagnostic support tests, such as ELISA or LLGP-EITB; however, they evaluate the response against each antigen individually and qualitatively. In a previous study in pigs, the magnetic microsphere-based immunoassay (MBA) was used to simultaneously quantify levels of IgG antibodies against antigens for detection of T. solium. Our study preliminarily evaluated the utility of the MBA to evaluate the antibody response against 4 antigens in serum samples from patients with intraparenchymal NCC with 3-5 cysts, >5 cysts, and extraparenchymal. The results were analyzed using the STATA 18 program. Three of the four recombinant antigens showed significant MIF when comparing all subgroups of infected vs. negatives; the highest were extraparenchymal compared to both intraparenchymal (p=<0.05). The difference in MIF between the 3–5 cysts group and >5 cysts was statistically significant only for the sTs14 and sTs18 antigens. The one with the highest MIF was rGP50 (MIF=24356.3) and the one with the lowest value was sTs14 (MIF=3.5). The MBA is useful to evaluate the antibody response in human serum simultaneously in a quantitative manner, this has allowed us to observe differences between the different types of NCC; and could potentially become a new diagnostic tool for this infection.
