Low back pain (LBP) constitutes a public health problem, mainly due to the high prevalence and economic impact, generating a considerable loss of work days. It is the second cause of medical consultations (between 3-4% of consultations in primary care are due to LBP), is the fifth cause of admission to hospitalization, the third of surgeries and the third cause of chronic functional disability. LBP causes significant economic losses, mainly derived from temporary disability. The costs caused by days lost from work and disability due to musculoskeletal causes reaches 215 billion dollars a year. Objectives The “Acute Low Back Pain Screening Questionnaire by Linton & Halldén” was designed to identify the presence of acute low back pain in workers. The objective of this research is to validate this instrument for its application in workers of the private security service in Peru. Methodology A validation study of a health measurement instrument was carried out, using surveys of workers from a private security company. Content validity was evaluated with a group of experts; criterion validity and discriminant capacity; were evaluated with the ROC Curve and Youden Index respectively. The questionnaire applied was validated in 3 dimensions, analyzing test re-test Reliability and Internal Consistency. Results In the population evaluated, 42% belonged to the group exposed to ergonomic risks for low back pain with self-report of acute low back pain and 58% were workers not exposed to ergonomic risks for low back pain. The content validity was verified by exceeding the minimum threshold of 0.8 established by the Aiken V value of 0.5 at a confidence level of 95%. For criterion validity, an area under the curve (AUC) of 75.8% was obtained, as adequate for assessing the risk of acute low back pain. The sensitivity value obtained through the Youden Index was 80%. The reliability of test re-test was verified by obtaining a Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient of 0.823 with statistical significance (p<0.05) between both evaluations. We used Cronbach's Alpha to validate the internal consistency for the items, reaching an Alpha value of 0.827, and a 95% confidence interval of Alpha. Conclusions The Acute Low Back Pain Detection Questionnaire (ALBPSQ) has the properties of content and criterion validity for its use as an instrument for measuring the risk of acute low back pain in the security sector population at risk of ergonomic exposure to low back pain. This instrument can be used to monitor symptoms of acute low back pain to identify the risk or incidence of occupational low back pain. The Acute Low Back Pain Screening Questionnaire (ALBPSQ) has demonstrated its reliability in the consistency of its results over time, as well as in the internal consistency of its items, appropriate for use in longitudinal occupational surveillance systems.
