Introduction. - Healthcare professionals, who deal with emotionally affected individuals, must use their primary competencies, with an emphasis on empathy, to improve their quality of care and health outcomes. Currently, there are no studies that quantify, correlate and characterize the empathy levels of healthcare professionals and the quality of care they provide in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective. - To determine the association between the level of empathy of the nursing professional and the quality of care provided to post COVID-19 patients and patients hospitalised in the medicine department of a national hospital in Lima, Peru 2022. Material and Method. - The research employed a cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design. The sample consisted of 62 nurses and 82 patients, representing the total (sample population). The Jefferson Medical Empathy Scale (JEMS) for Spanish-speaking nurses version S and the CARE Q Quality of Nursing Care questionnaire were the instruments used in this survey-based methodology. Results. - A moderate and statistically significant positive correlation was observed (Rho= 0.467, p = 0.000<0.05). This finding suggests that patients' perception of quality of care improves as the empathy levels of the nursing graduates improve. Conclusions. - There is a positive and significant association between the level of empathy of nursing professionals and the quality of care perceived by patients.
