Background: Health research led by physicians is crucial for evidence-based medicine; however, scientific output in Peru has been low. Objective: This study aimed to describe the characteristics of publications resulting from research for master's and doctoral degrees in medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) between 2015 and 2022. Materials and Methods: A bibliometric study of a cross-sectional case series was conducted, including all research theses defended at UPCH during the specified period. A total of 173 theses were analyzed, with their publications recorded in databases such as Scopus, PubMed, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Results: Fifty-three publications were identified, representing a publication rate of 30.64%, with a median publication time of 1 year. The journals where these publications appeared had a median impact factor of 2.4; 56.60% of the publications were in Q1 and Q2 quartiles. The average Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) of the journals was 1.06, and the average citation rate of the publications was 6.34, with doctoral publications being the most cited. Conclusion: 30.6% of master's and doctoral theses were published, with a higher proportion in doctoral theses. The median time to publication was 1 year, predominantly in national journals and in Spanish, with Scopus being the most used database (22% of the total). The average journal impact factor (IF) was 2.4, with 56.6% in Q1 and Q2 quartiles. The average JCI was 1.06, and the average number of citations per article was 6.3.
