Introduction: Aging is part of human development and, along with its systematic decline, people become dependent and vulnerable because they lose part of their functionality. Therefore, self-care is important, the purpose of which is to maintain health, expand personal growth, maintain comfort and well-being, and ensure quality of life under your own responsibility. Objective: Determine the effectiveness of the self-care program “I take care of my best years” on the degree of functional dependency in a Care Center for the Elderly in Lima in 2022. Material and method: The study is pre-experimental, with a single group of older adults who receive the educational intervention. The data collection instrument (Barthel index) was applied before and after the intervention to measure changes in functional dependence. The population was older adults belonging to a Geriatric Network of Care Centers in Lurigancho that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 13 participants were recruited; An observational sheet was applied before and after the intervention. Results: The educational program had the participation of a total of 13 older adults. Regarding the degree of functional dependence of the MAs, before the execution of the study, 23.1% had a degree of independence; after the execution it rose to 46.2%. Moderate dependence after the intervention decreased from 30.8% to 7.7%. Conclusion: The study determined the effectiveness of an educational program that improves self-care levels of functional dependence in older adults. Independence to carry out basic activities of daily living, thus increasing the quality of life of older adults and their well-being.
