Human hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the parasite Echinococcus granulosus in its larval stage and is part of neglected diseases. Although these types of diseases have a negative impact on the economy, as well as on people's quality of life, this research directly addressed how poverty conditions contribute to the prevalence of hydatidosis. The aim was to determine the association between the level of poverty and the prevalence of hydatidosis in the livestock community of Canchayllo; evaluating whether a higher level of poverty implied a higher prevalence. For this, the wealth index was used to measure the level of poverty of the studied population. A descriptive analysis of the variables was carried out, and chi-square and Fisher tests were used to compare the prevalence between levels of poverty and other covariables. Generalized regression models of the binomial family with log link function and Firth's penalized logistic regression were also adjusted to evaluate the association between each covariable and the presence of hydatidosis. The software used were R and STATA. A prevalence ratio of 2.52 (95% CI: 1.10 - 5.80) was found between the group with high levels of poverty and the group with non-high levels of poverty, adjusting for educational level; thus concluding the existence of a significant association between these variables. The impact of this research lies in contributing to the study of the dynamics of this disease in order to contribute to its eradication and future research.
