Objective: To compare the precision in orthodontic measurements between conventional and digitalized study models through intraoral scanning, and to evaluate the patient’s acceptability in a private office of the CEOD. Materials and methods: Three measurements of the mesio-distal width of 368 teeth were obtained under 3 different methods. The procedure consisted of 4 phases: measurement of the real value, intraoral scanning, taking conventional cast model and solving a survey, which contains 3 questions and a VAS. The instruments were a CS 3600 intraoral scanner (Carestream Dental, GA, USA), a compass for the measurement of the real value and conventional models, and Exocad DentalCad GmbH software for the digitalized model analysis. Results: No significant difference was found for the comparison between the measurements according to the model making modality (p>0.005). The participants evinced preferences for the intraoral scanning method (p<0.005). No significant difference was found between acceptability according to sex (p>0.001) however, acceptability presented difference according to age (p>0.001). Conclusion: No significant difference was found for the comparison between the measurements of real value and digitalized models. The duration time of the analysis was shorter for the conventional models taken with alginate. Through the results of the survey and the VAS, it concluded that there is a significant acceptability of the patients to the intraoral scanning method.
