Missed nursing care involves all elements that were not performed or were omitted in intensive care. Objective: To determine the factors involved in missed nursing care. Methods: Correlational cross-sectional study with a sample of 36 nurses using the MISSCARE survey; to identify missed care and its related factors. Contingency tables were used to compare basic nursing care categories and their dimensions, versus care performed and care missed. The Chi-square test was used and worked at a statistical significance level of 0.05 (p<0.05). Results: Care performed was 58.3% while care lost was 41.7%, with the highest percentage of this item being patient planning and education (80.6%) and the lowest percentage being ongoing assessments (11.1%). The main contributing factor in missed care was communication (64.7%) (P=0.008). Conclusions: The missed nursing care is attributed to the communication factor, which is relátele to the dimension of discharge planning and patient education, generating the omission or delay of some nursing care. The results of tris research will strengthen the continuity of nursing care in intensive care therapy.
