The following central points of analysis regarding emotional intelligence were determined: the level, its influence on factors related to the population, the relationship with clinical factors and the identification of the most used psychometric instruments for its measurement in Latin American university students during the context. Covid-19. The research concluded that gender and culture influence the frequency and preference of the emotional skills; mainly, the influenced factors belonged to the educational field: academic self-efficacy, academic stress and academic performance; it was identified that anxiety and depression were the relevant clinical factors in relation to emotional intelligence; finally, it was highlighted that the most used psychometric instrument was the Trait Meta Mood Scale-24. These contributions on emotional intelligence not only offer a better understanding of the situation, but also promote the development of the university student by identifying the elements that protect their mental health and physical integrity in the face of overwhelming events, such as those that occurred during the context of Covid -19.
