The objective of this Professional Sufficiency Work was to evaluate the results of diagnostic tests of patients with suspected canine ehrlichiosis from the database of two veterinary clinical laboratories during 2018 to 2022. The demographic data of each patient together with a complete blood count accompanied by diagnostic tests such as direct blood smears to search for hemopathogens and a rapid test to rule out Ehrlichia canis. A first group made up of patients with a complete blood count and a positive result in both the smear and the rapid discard test was analyzed; the second group included patients with a complete blood count and a positive result in the rapid rule-out test; the third group consisted of patients with a complete blood count and a positive smear result; a fourth group was made up of patients with a complete blood count and a negative result both in the smear and in the rapid discard test; the fifth group was made up of patients with a complete blood count and a negative result for the rapid discard test, and the sixth group included patients who had a complete blood count and a negative smear result. We worked with the six groups beforehand to report the main findings in the blood count of each particular case and to find the relationship that existed between them. Canines with anemia and thrombocytopenia were more likely to be positive to E. canis rapid serological test. While canines with leukopenia and thrombocytopenia turned out to be more likely to be positive in the blood smear test for Ehrlichia canis hemopathogens. Finally, canines with moderate to several pancytopenia are more likely to be positive in the hemopathogen search test or in the rapid serological test.
