Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic hindered access to healthcare services and consequently the control of chronic diseases such as HIV infection. In this context, organizations like the Non-Governmental Organization “Investigaciones Médicas en Salud” emerged, which did not interrupt their operations and served as an alternative and support to conventional health centers. Objective: To retrospectively compare patients at the time of their first HIV infection evaluation at the NGO between the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Materials and Methods: The present is a retrospective cohort study. Data were collected from the medical records of patients treated at the NGO between March 16, 2018, and March 15, 2022 and univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis were performed. Results: The sample consisted of 620 patients, 207 were found in the pre-pandemic period and 413 in the pandemic period. No significant differences were found between the groups for viral load and CD4 values, even when controlling confounding variables in the linear regression model (p=0.67 and p=0.26 respectively). There was a reduction in the proportion of patients who initiated ART after seven days of their first evaluation (RR=0.37; 95% CI: 0.25 - 0.57). Conclusion: Viral load and CD4 values were not different between pre-pandemic and pandemic groups. The time to initiation of ART was shorter during the pandemic period.
