Urbanization is a current process on a global scale that endangers biodiversity through the perturbance of natural ecosystems, being harmful to the habitat of native species. In recent decades, urban ecology researches have been encouraged using birds as an object of study since they are efficient bioindicators without so many complications . Although urbanization affects birds in different ways, there are conditions that determine the establishment and presence of distinct bird species that have been poorly studied, such as urban waterbodies, which are important for the diversity of urban birds. In Lima Provi nce , wetlands are one of the habitats that host a high biodiversity of species, however, those neares t to human populations have decreased in area due to urban expansion. The creation of urban waterbodies, in addition to the protection of natural waterbodies , provides important resources for birds, being used as a resting, feeding or even nesting site for different species. Although there are studies that demonstrate the importance of these waterbodies for birds, most of these researches are carried out in temperate countries, which contrasts with Latin American countries, that have a tropical climate and a greater richness of birds in cities. T he influence of urban waterbodies on birds are poorly known , especially in cities like Lima, which has unique characteristics but not much literature on the subject . This knowledge will allow us to understand the ecological processes that take place in cities, to protect and recover biodiversity in a country with a disorderly urbanization that also has one of the largest numbers of bird species in the world.
