The efficacy of the use of sodium chloride and formalin as a treatment for monogenoide parasites in Colossoma macropomum was determined through in vitro and in vivo tests, as well as through histological analysis to show the lesions caused by these parasites. 99 juvenile gamitana were used, from earthen ponds, with an average weight of 32.6g and 13 cm in length. In vitro tests were carried out to determine the time of the concentrations capable of stopping the movement of the parasites, each branchial arch was placed in Petri dishes with 10ml of the different solutions of sodium chloride (20gr/L and 30gr/L), formalin (0.5ml/L and 0.8ml/L), being the dose of 30gr/L of salt the one that had a shorter time 3.23 min. For the in vivo tests, therapeutic baths of 30 min for three days were carried out, making a total of 9 fish per treatment, all treatments were effective, being the formalin doses of 0.5ml/L and 0.8ml/L the ones that had a highest percentage 99.81% and 99.85% of efficiency respectively. The identification and quantification of the monogenoide parasites was carried out, identifying Anacanthorus spathulatus, registering the highest prevalence (87.1%). Histopathological analysis revealed the most frequent lesions caused by branchial monogenoides: interlamellar hyperplasia in 93.33%, hyperplasia of secondary lamellae in 80%, infiltration of eosinophilic and lymphocytic cells in 86.6%, as well as lamellar fusion in 73.33%.
