Objective: To evaluate the knowledge and attitudes towards breastfeeding in members of the Peruvian Society of Pediatric Dentistry. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. A questionnaire was designed that included 3 questions on sociodemographic data, 10 items on knowledge about breastfeeding, and 7 items on attitudes toward breastfeeding. Content validity was evaluated using Aiken's V coefficient with the participation of 10 expert judges. With the data collected from the pilot test, the reliability analysis was carried out. To evaluate internal consistency, the Kuder-Richardson test was used on the knowledge items and the Cronbach's alpha test was used on the attitude items. The questionnaire was distributed virtually between February and April 2023, collecting 175 fully completed questionnaires. Results: 48.6% of the participants had low knowledge about breastfeeding and 51.4% had moderate and high knowledge. Furthermore, 86.3% of participants had positive attitudes toward breastfeeding and 2.3% had negative attitudes. Knowledge about breastfeeding was independent of the covariates: sex, age and time of practice in the specialty, and attitudes towards breastfeeding were independent of the covariates: sex, age and time of practice in the specialty (p>0, 05). Conclusions: 51.4% of the participating pediatric dentists had moderate and high knowledge about breastfeeding, and 86.4% had positive attitudes towards breastfeeding.
