Introduction: Emphasizes the importance of adopting ICT in medical education and the need to create educational software for teaching Basic Ophthalmology to medical students. Objective: The study focused on developing educational software as a support resource for teaching Basic Ophthalmology in a university faculty. Methodology: The research was based on operational research principles and comprised three stages: needs assessment, design and development of educational software, and its validation. Results: Basic Ophthalmology educational software is essential and meets educational quality standards. Students express high demand and observe improvements in their learning. Experts in ophthalmology, educational methodology, and informatics endorse its effectiveness, confirming its utility. Conclusions: The educational software OFTALMOGUIDE® has been developed for medical students, addressing the identified need for a computer-based resource to learn basic ophthalmology. This software is notable for its user-friendliness, customization options, and content enriched with images and links to facilitate a more profound learning experience. Furthermore, it has undergone validation in terms of methodology, content, computer functionality, and field-related aspects within the realm of Basic Ophthalmology.
