Obesity in children and adolescents is a public health problem in different countries. The main cause is due to the imbalance of calories that are consumed and the one that is spent, storing the excess of them in the form of fat. The objective of this research is: Determine the national prevalence of obesity in adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age in the years 2019 and 2020. Material and methods: Quantitative, retrospective, descriptive study and secondary data analysis of the results of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2019 and 2020. It was made up of the database managed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), with the surveys prepared and applied by the ENDES in adolescents aged 15 to 19 who turned with all the selection criteria. Results: The national prevalence of obesity (Table 1) according to ENDES in 2019 was 5.3%, increasing to 7.1% in 2020. Statistically significant difference (p=0.009). Conclusions: The national prevalence of obesity in adolescents between 2019 and 2020 increased from one year to the next, being statistically significant. There was a trend towards an increase in the prevalence of obesity in adolescents of both sexes according to data for the period 2019 – 2020, with the male sex having the highest prevalence. There was a trend towards an increase in the prevalence of obesity in adolescents in both areas of residence for the period 2019 – 2020, with the urban area having the highest prevalence.
