Background: The tomographic severity index determines the compromise of the pulmonary edema caused by SARS-CoV-2, being vital for a better diagnosis, control and follow-up of the evolution. While the Hounsfield Units allow defining the density of the visualized edema by creating a region of interest. Objective: To determine the relationship between the Tomographic Severity Index and the Hounsfield Pulmonary Condition Units in patients suspected of SARS-CoV-2 at a Regional Hospital in Ayacucho during the year 2020. Material and Methods: Quantitative, basic, correlational, non-correlated study. cross-sectional retrospective experimental study with a sample of 300 patients suspected of SARS-CoV-2 evaluated by Tomography. A form that demonstrated perfect content validity was used to obtain information from secondary sources. Results: The average age was 55.62 ± 16.68 years, the most frequent sex being male (56.7%). The average Severity Tomographic Index was 12.2 ± 5.37 points and the average of the Hounsfield Units was -202.89 ± 182.25 HU. Both the Tomographic Severity Index (Right 2.96 ± 1.25 and Left 2.95 ± 1.17) and Hounsfield Units (Right -117.98 ± 182.08 and Left -116.98 ± 165.184) of pulmonary edema were higher in the lower lobes. Conclusion: The relationship between the Tomographic Severity Index and the Hounsfield Pulmonary Condition Units in patients suspected of SARS-CoV-2 in the sample was directly proportional (p < 0.05, correlation coefficient 0.5 – 0.74).
