Introduction: Anemia in children from 6 to 35 months is considered a Severe Public Health Problem in Peru. In 2019, the program “Meta 4” established actions to prevent and reduce anemia implemented by municipalities that highlights the participation of community members called “actores sociales”. However, the performance of these actors has been studied mainly in rural areas with less evidence in urban contexts. Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of the “actores sociales” about the implementation of the program in San Borja, an urban district of Lima, in 2019. Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive and phenomenological study. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 “actores sociales” of San Borja that had a minimum of two months of experience. Results: The “actores sociales” stated that working on the program was a good experience and they perceived their actions had a positive impact on the community. However, their motivation was diminishing due to the perception of inadequate remuneration and the difficulties presented during home visits such as problems in locating families and lack of interest from parents. Conclusions: To improve the implementation of the program and ensure greater motivation and retention of the “actores sociales” of San Borja, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of the population and the district; and define the monetary incentive based on the activities they do and the time it takes them to carry them out.
