Background: Alcohol consumption is a current problem that leads to the predisposition to suffer diseases such as: High blood pressure, Diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. This consumption is highly prevalent in countries such as Peru, so it will be important to obtain updated data that influence strategies related to the control of alcohol consumption. Objective: Identify the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with alcohol consumption in Peruvian adults during 2017-2018. Materials and methods: A quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, analytical study of a national survey carried out by the National Center for Food and Nutrition (CENAN) of Peru carried out in 2017-2018 was carried out. The daily consumption of pure alcohol was stratified according to sociodemographic and clinical variables. A regression model was included to assess which variables were related to higher alcohol consumption. Results: The daily alcohol intake was 2.98 grams/day. In multiple linear regression, women consumed 5.24 grams/day less than men (p = 0.002). The other variables did not have a statistically significant relationship. Conclusions: Alcohol consumption in Peru is higher in males, therefore, health policies should focus on this profile of the population. In addition, alcohol consumption should be considered as a harmful habit, that is, a chronic state. Lastly, future studies should take into account other important factors that influence alcohol consumption, such as early exposure to alcoholic beverages and the sociocultural influence of the population.
