Background. The new disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 is spreading rapidly among humans and has been declared a pandemic. In Peru, the first case was reported on March 6, 2020, and its impact has been devastating for the country. Objective. To determine the epidemiological and clinical characteristics and clinical outcomes in patients with a history of arterial hypertension and COVID-19 pneumonia admitted for emergency care in 2021 at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza. Materials and methods. Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. Clinical histories of hypertensive patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia during the second wave of January and February 2021 were reviewed. Clinical and laboratory characteristics and clinical outcomes were analyzed. Results. The mean age was 66.09±12.46 years. The most frequent symptom was dyspnea, followed by cough and fever. Diabetes mellitus was the most frequent associated comorbidity, and the most frequent prehospital antihypertensive medication was losartan. The median systolic and diastolic blood pressure on admission was 125 mmHg and 70 mmHg respectively. Of the laboratory tests recorded, SaFiO2; leukocyte, DHL and CRP values were associated with mortality. Mortality was 63.69%. Conclusions. The hypertensive population with COVID-19 evaluated was older than the general hypertensive population. Mortality was 63.69%. The most frequent comorbidity associated with hypertension in patients with unfavorable outcome was Diabetes Mellitus. An association was found between mortality and certain markers of inflammation.
