Objetive: To describe the morbidity and mortality of patients with COVID-9 who were admitted to Mechanical Ventilation at the Daniel Alcides Carrion Hospital from December 2020 to May 2021. Methods: It is a series of cases which included 96 patients with respiratory failure due to Covid-19 who were admitted to Mechanical Ventilation in the intensive care units of the Daniel Alcides Carrión National Hospital. Results: overall Mortality was 52 (54.17%), the average age was 47.09±12.7 years, 73.96% of patients were male, 92.71% had some Comorbidity. In the bivariate análisis significant differences were obtained in age (p:0.006) and in the serum levels of fibrinogen (p:0.007), CRP (p:0.04), leukocyte count (p:0.03) and bacterial superinfection (p<0.001); in the multivariate analysis, the influence on mortality was found only with fibrinogen levels >900mg/dL [aHR: 3.06 (95% CI: 1.65-5.67) p <0.001], C-reactive protein >5Mg/dL [aHR:0.43 (95% CI: 0.21-0.89) p:0.02] and the occurrence of bacterial superinfection [aHR: 5.3 (95% CI: 2.62-10.9) p<0.001], the rest of the variables were not associated with mortality in patients on Mechanical Ventilation for COVID-19. Conclusions: In patients with Severe COVID-19 who were admitted to Mechanical Ventilation, the average age was 47 years, Overall mortality was 54%, and it was higher in patients with elevatedserum fibrinogen and in those who acquired a bacterial superinfection in the UCI; likewise patient with abnormal C-reactive protein levels were associated with lower mortality.
