Background: The study of obesity from the point of view of the anatomical distribution of adiposity has become relevant; since, unlike subcutaneous adipose tissue (located on the body periphery), visceral adipose tissue (located in the intra-abdominal area) has been associated with greater damage to people's health status due to its link with development of Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (cardiovascular pathologies, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes) and the consequent high worldwide rate of disability and premature deaths. Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with abdominal obesity in Peruvians between the ages of 20 and 59, according to ENDES 2019. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study with a sample of 22,485 individuals between the ages of 20 and 59. A bivariate analysis was performed to determine the association between abdominal obesity and the study variables using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p <0,05. The degree of association of the factors was measured through the prevalence ratio (PR) with its 95% confidence interval. Results: 73.62% of Peruvians between the ages of 20 and 59 had OA in 2019. OA was associated with being a woman (PR: 2.99; 95% CI: 2.75 - 3.25), having from 50 to 59 years old (PR: 1.93; 95% CI: 1.72 - 2.18), having a partner (PR: 1.27; 95% CI: 1.18 - 1.37), having more than 2 children (PR: 2.26; 95% CI: 1.90 - 2.69), reside in the urban area (PR: 1.68; 95% CI: 1.58 - 1.78), live in the Coast (PR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.41 - 1.61), being non-poor (PR: 1.81; 95% CI: 1.69 - 1.94), having Overweight/Obesity ( PR: 8.52; 95% CI: 7.80 - 9.31) and cigarette consumption (PR: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.68 - 0.81). Conclusions: The variables associated with abdominal obesity were sex, age, parity, marital status, wealth index, natural region, area of residence, nutritional status, and cigarette consumption.
