Introduction: The present thesis focuses on the analysis of the availability of drugs for the treatment of pneumonia in children under five years of age at Hospital San Bartolomé during the period from January 2016 to August 2022, pre-pandemic and pandemic comparison, and estimation of out-of-pocket expenditure. These drugs were chosen because pneumonia is one of the major diseases with the highest prevalence in that population and in the study hospital. In addition, in the absence of timely pharmacological treatment, complications in the health of individuals, out-of-pocket health expenditure and antibiotic resistance would be generated. Objective: To analyze the availability of essential drugs for the treatment of pneumonia in children under five years of age, in the Hospital San Bartolomé, in the period from January 2016 to August 2022, to compare pre-pandemic and pandemic availability, and to estimate out-of-pocket expenditure. Materials and Methods: The study is observational, cross-sectional - retrospective. To determine the level of availability, the instrument proposed by DIGEMID, Indicators of Availability of Essential Drugs, was used. To estimate the Out-of-Pocket Expenditure, the prices of medicines published on the SISMED web page, Peruvian Observatory of Pharmaceutical Products, and on the web page of the Kairos medicine price search engine were used. For the processing and analysis of the twenty medicines evaluated, the Excel program was used. Results: The results obtained showed an AVERAGE level of availability, with 73.54 % using the mean statistic and 73.68 % using the median statistic, the level of availability varied to HIGH using the mode statistic at 84.21 % during the study period. As for the Levels of availability according to stock level were 51.4 % in Overstock, 22.1 % in Normostock, 14.5 % in Substock and 12.0 % in Out of Stock. With respect to the comparison of the Availability Percentage before and during the pandemic, it was observed that during the first year of the pandemic, in 2020, it did not present a negative variation due to the lack of drug rotation; however, from January 2021 to August 2022, a significant reduction was noted. Finally, the minimum estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenditure made by the families of all minors affected by the ailment was approximately S/ 39.60, and the maximum was approximately S/ 144,509.12 during the study period. Conclusions: The entity needs to review its drug management processes to introduce changes to improve the Regular Availability Level it has, as this puts the health and income of families at risk.
