Background: literature in our country is scarce regarding the knowledge about risk and cardiovascular disease in patients who attend primary healthcare facilities In this place, approximately 85% of the medical problems of the population are treated and primary prevention activities are performed. Objective: to determine the level of knowledge about cardiovascular disease risk factors for people attending a primary care health facility. Materials and methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on patients who attended the I-3 “Amakella” health facility and their companions or relatives. Data was collected through a printed survey. A score less than 6 was considered inadequate, and a score greater than or equal to 6 was considered adequate. According to the scores attained, knowledge was categorized as poor, regular, good, and excellent. Results: 400 people were surveyed, 66.3% were women, mean age was 46.8 ± 16.2 years. After applying the instrument, the average grade was 4.52. Most of the studied population had a deficient or regular level of knowledge, regardless of their age, gender, or level of education. Conclusion: the level of knowledge about risk factors for cardiovascular disease was inadequate in the surveyed population. Patients need to recognize cardiovascular risk factors, which supports the primary prevention of these diseases.
