The objective of current the study was to evaluate the effect of the use of animal by-product meal (APM) and fishmeal (FM) in feed on the productive parameters, the iron content in the egg and the economic retribution of the feed in commercial laying hens for a period of 6 weeks. A total of 720 hens (Dekalb Brown) of 32 weeks of age were given 3 dietary treatments: control diet based on hard yellow corn and soybean cake, treatment 2 based on the basal diet + 2.5% fishmeal and treatment 3 based on the basal diet + the addition of 2.5% animal by-product meal. Each treatment was assigned six replicates with 40 birds per replicate under similar management conditions and environment. The following measurements were made: total egg production, feed consumption per bird/day, egg mass, feed conversion ratio, iron concentration in the egg and economic retribution of the feed. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed for parametric observations and Kruskal Wallis analysis for non-parametric data, the difference between means was determined by Tukey test with a confidence level of 95% ( p<0.05). A statistically significant difference (p<0.05) was found due to the effect of the treatments on the variables total egg production, feed consumption, egg mass and feed conversion ratio. However, no statistical difference was found (p>0.05) to the evaluation of the iron content in the chicken egg, nor to the economic compensation of the food. Based on the results, it is concluded that the hens fed with the animal protein sources did not show an improvement in the productive parameters, such as, total egg production or the feed conversion rate with respect to the control group and, the animal protein source did not differs in the iron content in the egg or in the economic retribution of the food with respect to the control.
