In the present state of the art, a review of international empirical studies, from the last five years, from 2016 to 2021, on ecological behavior and self-control was conducted. Ecological behavior, a behavior aimed at protecting the environment and minimizing environmental damage, is a research field of growing importance due to the need for its promotion and development. Due to the requirement for the creation of habits and behavioral changes to achieve ecological goals, the study of self-control, defined as the conscious regulation of impulses, is considered important. In this way, it is possible to examine how individuals come to follow ecological behaviors and maintain them or otherwise avoid ecological alternatives and abandon ecological behaviors. The objective of the research is to analyze empirical studies of self-control and ecological behavior worldwide in the last five years. For this purpose, the theories and conceptual approaches to both topics were analyzed, as well as the methods used for the investigations. It constitutes a scientific contribution to a line of research that is highly necessary for the sustainability of the country and the planet, as well as knowledge applied to the social area for the promotion of ecological behavior.
