The objective of the study was to evaluate the applicability of the principles approved by the OIE for the responsible and prudent use of antibiotics in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) by the actors involved in Peruvian trout farming (farmers, veterinary products sellers, and veterinarians). Hence, the national regulation regarding the use of antibiotics in aquatic species was compared with the OIE aquatic code and two Chilean regulations, since it is a country where aquaculture is more developed in the region. Subsequently, a survey was carried out on the applicability of said Peruvian and OIE standards to the main actors involved in trout farming of the departments of Puno, Junín, and Ancash. It was found that the Peruvian regulations did not specifically contemplate the guidelines for the use of antibiotics by aquaculture health professionals nor guidelines on extra-label use, in the comparison of OIE regulations and Chilean regulations. In relation to the surveys, a general lack of knowledge of the national regulation was found, especially by the farmers and marketers, as well as difficulties in carrying out treatments. Thus, it is considered that greater communication on this subject is necessary and the improvement of the regulations according to the reality of the sector. It is concluded that there is a partial applicability of the OIE principles for the responsible and prudent use of antibiotics by the actors of the Peruvian trout farming due to the lack of knowledge of the regulation, therefore it is necessary to promote a dissemination and training program. on them, in order not to affect the safety of food products and the export potential of this production system.
